Prescription drug card is available

The Alabama Rx Card Program announced today that more than 60,000 Alabamians have received a "FREE" prescription drug card since the Alabama Rx Card program launched November 1st.

"We are pleased that we have been able to help so many Alabama citizens and it shows there is an overwhelming need for prescription help in our state," Program Director Joe Saw said. The Alabama Rx Card was launched to help the uninsured and under insured people of Alabama afford their prescription medications. The program can also be used by people who have health insurance coverage with no prescription benefits (common in many HSA's and high deductible health plans). Also, people who have prescription coverage can use this program for non-formulary or non-covered drugs. This program even covers some pet medications.

The Prescription Drug Card is available online at www.alabamarxcard.com. Simply download a card by typing in your name in the blank and clicking "Create Prescription Card." Print a Prescription Drug Card to receive savings of up to 75 percent (savings average around 30 percent) at more than 50,000 national and regional pharmacies. Although the form asks for an e-mail address, residents may type "none" and still get their card. It is pre-activated and can be used at any participating pharmacy.

Every Alabama resident is eligible to participate in the Alabama Rx Card Program, regardless of age or income. Whether users have insurance has no bearing on the card's ability to save them money. There are no restrictions to membership and no applications to fill out.

Anyone not able to download a card from the website can visit any Alabama Bruno's, Food World, Food Max, Winn-Dixie, or K-Mart and they will process prescriptions through the program. The Alabama Rx Card program has no restrictions or participation requirements and the program is open to every resident of Alabama.
